Withings BodyScan 2: is the $599.95 scale worth it?

Our take: The Withings BodyScan 2 makes the most sense for someone who already tracks health trends and wants a scale with a handle display and more detailed measurements. If you only want a weight log or basic body-composition estimates, start with a cheaper model. More numbers do not automatically make a better purchase.

What is the Withings BodyScan 2?

BodyScan 2, also written Body Scan 2, is Withings’ premium connected scale. The US store lists it at $599.95 and in stock as checked September 28, 2026. Pricing and stock can change. It combines weight and body-composition estimates with additional heart and wellness measurements; it is not simply a new name for Body Smart.

Withings’ US launch announcement dates from July 2026. Some early launch descriptions differ from current support instructions, so this guide uses the current scan instructions and flags features whose rollout is unclear.

We verified the manufacturer’s exact product page. We could not verify an exact BodyScan 2 Amazon listing. Search results may include the original Body Scan, accessories or books. Confirm the model, seller, warranty and return terms before buying.

What changes from the original Body Scan?

The official comparison FAQ identifies a handle with its own color display, an upgraded body-composition system and added SpO2 measurement. Both generations offer ECG and AFib detection where enabled. That means ECG alone is not a reason for an existing Body Scan owner to upgrade.

For a new buyer, the practical question is whether the extra information will earn a regular place in your routine. For an existing owner, write down the specific limitation you want to fix. A new display may be useful; replacing a working scale just to collect more scores is a weaker case.

Daily use: budget for more than a quick step-on

According to Withings’ current scan instructions, Daily Scan takes about 30 seconds and can be customized. The fuller Longevity Scan is proposed every seven days and typically takes around two minutes while you stand still holding the handle. It includes additional measurements such as ECG where available, SpO2 and Nerve Response Score.

That time commitment matters. If your current routine is stepping on a scale for a few seconds before leaving, decide whether you would actually hold a handle and complete the longer scan. Features you regularly skip should count for less in your buying decision.

Which features require a subscription or an update?

Withings’ support FAQ still marks Glucose Resilience and some Intelligence features as coming soon. It also places Heart Age and Glucose Resilience within Withings+. The product page advertises these scores more broadly. Confirm your country’s current feature availability before paying for one specific score; do not assume every advertised capability is active on day one.

The US announcement lists Withings+ at $9.95 monthly or $99.50 annually, following an introductory month. Basic device use does not require taking the optional subscription, according to the store terms. Check the checkout total and renewal terms, including whether an offer is selected.

As a budgeting example, the listed $599.95 device plus one $99.50 annual subscription payment totals $699.45 before tax. That is a device-plus-one-paid-year comparison, not a claim about the exact date of your first charge. If the free features meet your needs, leave the subscription out of your budget.

BodyScan 2 vs cheaper Withings scales

These are US prices and feature summaries shown in the Withings scale range on September 28, 2026. The buying judgments in the last column are ours.

ModelListed priceReason to compare it
Body Smart$129.95Weight, body composition and standing heart rate. A starting point if you want a simpler tracking routine.
BodyFit$279.95Segmental body composition and vascular age. Compare this first if body composition is your main reason for wanting a handle scale.
Body Scan$499.95Segmental body composition, vascular age and ECG/AFib features. Existing owners should identify a concrete upgrade benefit.
BodyScan 2$599.95The premium option with the handle display and additional measurements. Best considered when you intend to use those additions.

At these list prices, BodyScan 2 costs $320 more than BodyFit and $470 more than Body Smart. Ask what that difference buys for your own routine. Money left in the budget has value too; you do not need the flagship to begin keeping a consistent record.

What the health claims do not mean

Withings’ product explanations say Glucose Resilience does not measure blood glucose, and Blood Pressure Insights does not measure blood pressure. Do not buy the scale as a replacement for a glucose monitor or blood-pressure cuff.

The US launch footnotes distinguish FDA-cleared ECG software from the scale hardware and the other wellness features. A regulated ECG function does not make every score a medical diagnosis.

The advertised 99% DEXA correlation is an internal-study claim, not a promise that an individual’s body-fat result is 99% accurate. Correlation and individual measurement error are different questions. We have not independently validated that claim. Use the device’s instructions and a clinician’s advice for health decisions; do not change treatment based on a score.

A practical buying checklist

  1. Name the job. Do you want a convenient weight history, a body-composition trend, or a specific extra measurement?
  2. Check the cheaper option. Compare that job with Body Smart and BodyFit before committing to the flagship.
  3. Confirm the feature today. Check US availability, subscription requirements and any pending update for your must-have feature.
  4. Check setup and suitability. Review phone compatibility, Wi-Fi requirements and the product’s health restrictions in the manufacturer guide.
  5. Check the return route. Save the exact model name and the retailer’s return terms. Do not assume a third-party seller offers the manufacturer’s direct-store terms.

Who should buy it, and who should wait?

Consider BodyScan 2 if you already use health data consistently, want the handle display and added measurements, and can justify the full cost using features available to you now. Choose a cheaper scale or keep your current one if weight trends are your main goal. Wait if the feature driving the purchase is still pending.
