Choose the GRID 1.0 when a compact roller fits your routine. Choose the GRID 2.0 when you already want a longer rolling surface and have room to store it. The larger number in the name should not make the decision for you.

Buy the GRID 1.0 if it needs to leave the house
A roller that lives in a gym bag has to share space with shoes, clothing and water. Check the bag opening before checking the advertised capacity in liters. A rigid cylinder cannot squeeze through a narrow opening just because the main compartment looks large.
Make a paper rectangle the length and width of the roller, then check it against the available bag space. This is only a first fit check, since paper has no depth. Leave space for the actual cylinder and anything packed around it. If it requires removing something you normally need, the roller is not portable for your particular bag.
For someone buying a first roller for occasional gym use, my practical starting choice is the smaller model, provided its firmness is a match. You can choose the larger one later if a specific use exposes a real limitation. Buying more length in anticipation of every possible exercise is an expensive way to pack a bag.
Buy the GRID 2.0 if the extra length has a clear job
Think about where you have used a roller before. Did you keep running out of useful surface, or did the shorter roller work comfortably? If you can point to a specific routine where more width would help, the longer model has a defensible purpose.
Storage matters just as much at home. Measure the intended shelf, basket or clear floor space. A roller that must be moved out of the way every day becomes another object to manage. For a dedicated exercise area, that may be a trivial tradeoff. For a shared living room, it may decide the purchase.
How much space will each roller take?
The GRID 2.0 is twice as long, with the same published diameter. You gain 13 inches of length. You also need twice as much length on a shelf when the roller lies flat. The model number does not mean twice the performance.
| Space to reserve | GRID 1.0 | GRID 2.0 |
|---|---|---|
| Bare roller, length × width × height | 13 × 5.5 × 5.5 in | 26 × 5.5 × 5.5 in |
| Metric equivalent, rounded | 33.0 × 14.0 × 14.0 cm | 66.0 × 14.0 × 14.0 cm |
| Lying flat on a shelf | 13 × 5.5 in footprint | 26 × 5.5 in footprint |
| Standing on one end | 5.5-in footprint diameter; 13 in tall | 5.5-in footprint diameter; 26 in tall |
Dimensions from TriggerPoint GRID 1.0 and GRID 2.0, checked September 13, 2026. Centimeters are calculated at 2.54 cm per inch. Storage examples below are our calculations, not measurements of a particular bag.
A bag example that rules out the larger roller
Suppose the clear interior of your packed compartment is a rectangular 20 × 8 × 8 inches. The GRID 1.0 passes a straight dimensional check, leaving 7 inches along its length and 2.5 inches across each other dimension before allowing for handling room.
The GRID 2.0 fails that check. In this particular example, turning it diagonally cannot rescue the fit: even the corner-to-corner distance of the entire box is only about 23 inches, shorter than the roller’s 26-inch axis. A different bag may give a different answer.
Box diagonal: √(20² + 8² + 8²) = 22.98 inches. A long enough diagonal alone would not prove fit, because the roller also has thickness. Check the opening and packed compartment physically.
Is the longer model worth its price difference?
Write down the additional delivered cost, then name the activity or storage arrangement that needs the extra length. If the only answer is “2.0 sounds better,” choose the size that already fits your use or keep your current roller. If the issue is surface feel, compare CORE versus GRID construction before paying for another length.
Use this purchase test
| Your situation | Practical starting choice |
|---|---|
| Regularly taking the roller to a gym | GRID 1.0, after checking bag fit |
| A dedicated home exercise space and a known need for more width | GRID 2.0 |
| No experience with either size | Try an available roller first, or prioritize a workable return policy |
| You dislike the feel of a firm roller | Reconsider the construction before choosing either length |
These are fit recommendations, not measured performance results. Extra length does not establish that a product works better for your body. Likewise, the smaller model is not automatically the better value if you would immediately replace it with a longer one.
When neither is the right purchase
If your complaint about a previous roller was how it felt, another length may not solve it. Compare construction and pressure preference before shopping by dimensions. Our CORE vs GRID comparison separates that decision from the size decision.
If you already own a roller that fits your routine, keep it. A second roller makes sense when it fills a different job, such as one staying at home and another traveling. It does not become useful simply because it belongs to a newer-looking product line.
